The hOTEL

Welcoming spaces for everyone

Our hotel has been designed with accessibility at its heart. From spacious meeting rooms to comfortable communal areas, each space is easy to navigate and welcoming for all.

Lounge Bar

With its high ceilings and light, spacious vibe, this room is open and airy during the day but really comes into its own during the evenings when the lights are dimmed and the lamps come on. Then it becomes dark and moody, reminiscent of a contemporary but cozy ‘smoking’ club ambiance. A particular favourite haunt amongst guests.

The front of the lounge bar has been designed for comfort, where guests can enjoy cozy chats over drinks in comfy, leather sofas and low coffee tables against a signature wall which showcases the views. The middle section has been designed to accommodate eating and drinking at a selection of tables. We also have a small amount of high bar stools around the bar area for extra seating.

Old photos celebrating the area’s rich mining heritage decorate the walls highlighting the clear mining link between the house and the area, showcasing the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our bar is open to guests mainly but we extend a warm welcome to locals too. Many of our drink options are sourced from Wales, including several choices of locally brewed craft beer. We also offer an interesting range of non-alcoholic beverages.

During busy periods, the bar will remain open until 22:00, although closing times will vary during quiet times.

Food and beverages can be served in the Dining Room, Bar Lounge or on the patio.

Why not sit outdoors and enjoy the natural environment. Look out and listen …… the perfect way to enjoy a cool drink on a warm evening. We are a non smoking hotel and have a designated smoking area.

Breakfast Room

This room again showcases the front views, framing the windows in a natural light olive green to take advantage of the natural landscape – a fabulous way to start the day.

We have a selection of different sized tables available in the dining area to accommodate families, small groups and couples. Breakfast is normally served between 07:30 and 09:30 and we have a generous selection of options from which to choose.

Guests can chose from our Continental Breakfast or our full ‘Y Chwarelwr’ (Quarryman’s) Breakfast, which is particularly popular choice full of locally sourced ingredients.

Pool Lounge

With a blend of character features and contemporary furnishing, the lounge seating area sits within a little nook of the bay window to best enjoy the views. A small bookcase is available for guests’ use, and readers can snuggle up within the deep window seats overlooking the garden parkland area.

Otherwise, guests can enjoy a game of pool and a small seating area with tables is also available to the back of the room where guests can watch a flat screen TV, which also plays karaoke.

Reception Area

The spacious reception area is in itself a lovely area for sitting around for a chat on the leather sofas. Signature walls have been painted in a dramatic teal blue colour which complements the natural slate flooring – the main entryway is through double glass automatic sliding doors which showcase the views with a small information area dedicated to tourist attractions for ideas of what to do whilst you’re in the area.

The reception, dining and main corridor areas all display original artwork from a local artist who is inspired by the natural landscape. All the artwork is available for sale.

To the back of the reception, we have a small shop area selling high quality products made by our individuals and other items which are linked to the area.

In the event of an emergency, the “sleep-in” team member can be reached by phoning 300 from the bedroom at any time.

The front doors are locked after 22:00 hours. Subsequent entry is via a keypad outside the main entryway, using the keypad code which is documented on the card wallet. Therefore, please have your key card and wallet with you at all times when leaving the Hotel, including to use the external smoking area as Gwesty Seren is a non-smoking establishment.

Gardens and outside space

There is currently an outside lift which takes guests up from the front car park to the main entrance as an alternative route to the double-sided stairway. The front of the hotel has several planters with evergreen lemon scented Monterey Cypress to help deter midges and keep gnats at bay during the summer months, together with comfortably seating areas which include parasol umbrellas on the patio – a very popular choice for guests on warm, sunny evenings.

The bird chorus is amazing, so sit back in the quiet to see if you recognise the different bird songs, especially early mornings and at dusk.

The hotel frontage is a natural sloping garden and the surrounding landscaping which totals approximately 3½ acres has been allowed to naturalise to encourage wildlife.

The elevation of the hotel maximises the views of the surrounding valley, the dam and the mountain ranges to the front and on both sides. The back of the hotel is of naturalised greenery.
